I wanted to say thank you for her help and advice regarding the perimenopause, when we spoke I mentioned I was off on a skiing holiday and joked that the children whizz past me and she said you will probably have more energy and she was right. I would like to express my extreme heartfelt gratitude to everyone there at Winchester GP. I honestly don't know what I would have done without you. It's so refreshing these days to be able to call and not only have someone so lovely and helpful answer the phone, but to then find out everyone else you deal with is exactly the same. The ability to see one of your amazing doctors the same day, face-to-face, is priceless when you have an emergency or health concern.
After excruciating kidney pain, I managed to see Dr Chana, in-person, within just a few hours of contacting you. As soon as my blood results were back, she called me to tell me I needed to have further urgent scans and investigations carried out. Our local A&E here had been closed due to a major incident, and I found the prospect of sitting in a distant A&E department for many hours on my own extremely daunting, even before being admitted and trying to get scans done or see a specialist.
But over the course of several quick calls, Dr Chana and the team at Winchester GP managed to perform nothing short of a miracle for me. I was able to get my scans and bloods done just two hours later, despite there being no initial availability for a week or so anywhere. As a result of this I was able to stay out of hospital and instead speak to a leading consultant on the phone for the results the very same day.
Taking a subscription with Winchester GP is without doubt one of the best things I have ever done. It's just how things should be if you could dream up the perfect medical practice, and that goes for the staff I met and the unsung heroes. I can't recommend this service enough, I wish I had found it years ago. The consultation was easy via Zoom, I felt listened too and empathised with. I was prescribed HRT and I can't tell you how different I feel. My aches and pains have gone. My sore joints are eased. Obviously there has been loads of coverage on TV lately about menopause, about just how awful the experience can be for some women. I definitely wasn't in the 'awful' category, but then I think women are natural copers, and we don't always realise how bad because the symptoms creep up over a long period. I definitely would never have gone to my NHS GP with my concerns - I would have felt bad taking an appointment - but I did think that there was room for improvement, and this was why I was keen to see a specialist, who could tailor my care more precisely, and also that I wouldn't have to fight to be taken seriously. 3 weeks after starting HRT, I feel a tangible improvement - not just physically (my husband can now hug me in bed without fear of melting!) but I sleep better and find myself much more able to manage my mental health - I can now admit to myself that I was struggling with less helpful thoughts, and there was only so much 'pulling myself together' I could do! After a frustrating experience with my NHS GP I decided to explore the private sector and found Dr Willsher via an Internet search,
Dr Willsher made an accurate diagnosis of 'aortic stenosis' at our first meeting on the 21/6/19, he referred me immediately to a cardiologist (Dr Kelly) who performed further tests and in turn referred me to Mr Barlow for surgery which was carried out on the 31/7/19. I am currently making a very good recovery. I have found the whole experience to date much better than I could have ever imagined. C.A. Dr Tom treated me as a whole person, which was what I need after being fobbed off by other doctors. I have complicated health problems, and I just wanted to feel better after years of feeling awful, and getting depressed about it. Dr Tom gave me confidence that my health problem (which he previously extensively reviewed) could be resolved. During this consultation he suggested a revised medication which had possible side effects which were fully explained . This medication probably not easily available on the NHS due to the cost but could delay a possible operation. I booked in for a 'wellness screening' and everything was completed within 1 week of booking the appointment. Gemma (Practise Manager) advises, helps and organises, the fact that Cara - the nurse comes to your house to take bloods, do an ECG etc is very convenient. The results were with with Dr Tom before my appointment which was only 5 days later! The appointment itself - incredibly thorough, detailed and very relaxed. Another fantastic appointment with Dr Tom. Having been to my normal GP and leaving with no diagnosis, simply a referral for Physio, I came to Dr Tom to see if he could help. And that he did. After a run down of my symptoms and a thorough examination, a suspected diagnosis was confirmed!! Sometimes in life we come up against unforeseen circumstances/symptoms and require a professional to help us understand what is happening and what can be done about it and that it is something that won't necessarily be understood in a 10 minute regular consultation. "The patient comes first" and time is taken to fully understand the symptoms and prognosis. What a great service, I did not think existed except in Northern Ireland. Dr Willsher was very friendly, unhurried, and did a proper examination which is what the NHS A&E did NOT do, I got a real feel of superb expertise and we have a agreed a short term plan of action and a medium one if the short term plan to does happen based on the injury I have sustained. I would thoroughly recommend this service to anyone that like me could not get an emergency appointment at their own GP or has to wait hours and hours in A&E to see a doctor who can not do much, or even if you need to get an X-Ray, MRI scan quicker than the NHS can do them for particular if like me your in pain! We contacted Dr Tom Willsher as we were increasingly concerned that our 6 year old son had been suffering with a high temperature, no appetite and sickness for a period of 3 days. We called early in the morning, described our son's symptoms, and Dr Tom came to our home the same morning. He gave our son a thorough examination and diagnosed a suspected burst appendix. Advising that our son needed to go to hospital immediately, he then phoned ahead to the Royal Hampshire A&E team to advise them of our impending arrival. They were therefore aware of our medical emergency as soon as we arrived, and quickly confirmed Dr Tom's diagnosis. Thankfully, our son was successfully operated on later that afternoon.
