When the financial world is chaos, focus on the one asset that really matters

Yoo hoo, all! And welcome to this weeks waffle, in which the financial and geo political chaos continues all around. The last weekend in March is traditionally when I feel motivated to get a few life sorting ducks in a row- a bit of financial planning, bit of travel planning perhaps - all of which seems a little bit compromised right now. So I’m satisfying my urge to feel in control of something meaningful by playing around with a financial management approach to wellbeing. It's not perfect, but see what you think...

Nutrition = Blue-Chip Stocks
What you put in your mouth, day in day out, is what ultimately constitutes your core investment holdings. So take a look at your plate- is it full of Blue Chip elements- that you and your body will understand, with nice clear and above-board accounting practices- or are you dabbling in Enron, or perhaps a bit of nutritional crypto currency. Yes they tell us it's food, but do you really understand it? And is that the kind of thing you really want in your 'forever fund'?

Exercise = Growth Stocks
The exciting thing about exercise is that you see the benefits in terms of strength, cardiovascular health, and resilience in a relatively short space of time. So even just a sprinkling extra is going to make a difference. And like the lifestyling principle in investing, it’s worth reviewing your choice of exercise over time. A plan that works in your 20s may not serve you in your 40s or 60s—and knowing when and how to adapt to maintain the benefits of exercise through life is key.

Social Connection = Land, bricks and mortar
Home is where the heart is, and your relationships really are a safe fortress in challenging times. Did you know that chronic loneliness has an equivalent impact on our health outcomes to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. So feel good about investing in the relationships you really value. Maybe there are one or two renovation projects you could take on? Or do you need some new flower beds to tend? Time to get digging and you'll see some new green shoots in no time.

Sleep = Cash Flow
It is often said in business that ‘cash is king’.. Surely, sleep is a strong candidate for the health equivalent. Without it, even the best nutrition or exercise plans are compromised. Yet it’s one of the most common areas where patients quietly struggle. It might not feel like a medical emergency, but if you are sleeping poorly your doctor absolutely wants to know and help you get back in to a healthy rhythm.

Preventive Care = Insurance
Regular check-ins, screening, and early intervention protect your long-term health. Not because something is wrong—but because staying well requires attention, not just reaction.

As ever, our fabulous GPs are on hand, like your health IFA (Truly independent and with no commission deals!) to support and advise you every step of the way. :-)

Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend, focussing on the important things we can control, and stressing less about the things we can't.
